Social media comment moderation, without deleting everything

Comment moderation is deciding what to do with each comment on a post: answer it, leave it, or take it out of the queue as spam. Most of the work is sorting, not deleting — the comments worth removing are a small fraction, and the ones that matter are the complaints hiding between them.

Moderation is mostly triage

The word suggests removal, and removal is the rarest outcome. On a normal post the split is roughly: a lot of praise that needs nothing, a few questions that need an answer today, one or two complaints that need an answer before they get repeated, and some spam.

The failure is not letting spam through. It is that the complaint sat in the same undifferentiated list as three hundred fire emojis and nobody saw it until the person posted again, louder.

Sorting criticism from spam

These get confused because both feel unwelcome, and treating them the same way is how brands get accused of censoring customers. Spam is unrelated to the post and usually promotional or automated. Criticism is on-topic, specific, and often from somebody who bought something.

Replim scores every comment as it arrives and tags complaints and questions separately from sentiment, so "negative" and "needs answering" stay different things. Praise can be negative in tone and still need nothing; a politely worded refund request needs you today.

What Replim does and does not do here

Replim marks a comment as spam inside your queue. It takes it out of the list so it stops counting as something to answer, and the record stays if you need it later.

It does not hide or delete the comment on the platform. That is a deliberate line: removing someone else's words in public is a decision a person should make in the place it happens, with the platform's own controls and its own audit trail. Replim will not do it on your behalf from a dashboard.

The same applies to blocking an account, which stays where it belongs — on the platform.

Clearing a queue after a post takes off

A post that does well is the hardest moderation problem, because volume arrives faster than anyone reads. The approach that holds up is to filter to one intent at a time rather than scroll: clear the questions, then the complaints, then bulk-clear the praise in one action.

That is what the filters in the comment inbox are for, and why bulk actions apply to whatever you have filtered to rather than to whatever you have ticked.

What Replim does not do

  • It does not schedule or publish posts. There is no content calendar. Replim handles what arrives after you post, not the posting.
  • It does not send replies automatically. Every reply is a draft until a person approves it. There is no setting that turns automatic replying on.
  • It does not support X/Twitter, TikTok, Reddit or Threads. Four platforms only: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.
  • It does not manage direct messages. Public comments only. DMs stay in the platform they arrived in.

Replim is a comment management tool, not a social media publishing suite. If you need a content calendar, you need a second tool alongside it.

Questions people ask

What is social media comment moderation?

Deciding what happens to each comment on a post: answer it, leave it, or remove it from your working queue as spam. In practice most of it is sorting rather than deleting.

Can Replim delete or hide comments on Instagram or Facebook?

No. Replim marks a comment as spam inside your own queue so it stops counting as something to answer. Hiding, deleting or blocking happens on the platform, using the platform's own controls.

Should you delete negative comments?

Usually not. Deleting on-topic criticism tends to escalate it, and the person can screenshot. Answering publicly and moving the detail to a message is the pattern that works. Spam is different, and removing it is uncontroversial.

How do you spot a complaint before it spreads?

Flag it as it arrives rather than finding it by reading. Replim tags complaints and questions separately from sentiment, so a politely worded refund request is not filed as neutral and forgotten.

Does moderation need to happen in real time?

Comments do not, in the way live chat does. What matters is that nothing waits days. Replim checks connected accounts every ten minutes and you can set a reply-time target so anything older is marked overdue.

Try it on your own comments

Moderation stops being a chore when the queue tells you which comments are which. Answer the two that matter, clear the rest in one action.
